My view on 'Out of Nature' (Mot Naturen) - Film

Beautifully and simple made, visually stunning and deep. Besides, who doesn’t want to see a beautiful shaped Scandinavian running naked! Here are the thoughts that provoked on me:

Every man or woman, who has ever consciously crossed the thin line of thought or reality about their current existential circumstances, will be touched by the honesty and simple beauty of this film. Perhaps for the world outside Norway, a man walking in the mountains might appear as a sporadic holiday occurrence. However, Norwegians are known to use their mountains and nature trails as a part of their life leisure traditions. There is nothing strange with such activity on a normal weekend. Norwegians are in the majority of the cases, a race connected to earth, and in some of those unpretentious trips, I have been witness on how Norwegians blend  beautifully with the spirit of the earth.

As Martin the protagonist of the film, evolves in his internal dialogue, we who have consciously have crossed that gray line of thought and reality, understand very well his unfulfilled views and sentiments. Perhaps men can relate much more to him, but as a woman,  I dare saying there are many like me, who can comprehend better such feelings and desires, life has given us a metamorphosis when we left what we had, and we have with the years assimilated elements of freedom that otherwise only men related to.

We as humans are constantly looking to find a way to hold on to ourselves. When the current circumstances no longer control the edges of the river of our emotions and desires, we escape even further into ourselves. The spaces of life in the outer world become half empty, despite being filled with family, a spouse, friends, income, etc. Everything is ever changing; that is how life is, that is our nature. Time/life will eventually take care of what needs to change. In the meantime, the days we don’t know how to survive, need to be survived out of ethics; the commitments we made to others can never be changed without pain. Being a third person or bringing a thing to press selfishly into others life for a change, will increase the pain, guilt and regret in everyone.  The same way, a person trying to escape their reality never did well by trying to latch to another person to justify the exit.

Even if our intentions and feelings may very well be honest and true, we must continue on our roads alone, and let go of what is not for us yet to have, perhaps the ethic and sacrifice of our choices, will eventually lead us again to the possibility of living without suffocating in our realities, finding love and meaning with another, in another stage of our life, at the right time and with no guilt.

The walk is long and painful, but meaningful. The right choices are always made on the best interest of others and when is time for the ultimate personal choice, that one comes as a certainty, the heart then knows.

Wonderful surprise to hear Radka Toneff on the movie. In my view she did the best cover version of The moon is a harsh mistress.
