The dutiful man
Paula Robles Nettel
she know well,
she was once that wife
she was once that wife
whose man slept next to her
raising the kids, sharing a life
and all his daily thoughts,
while betraying her
with the secrets that he kept.
Her faithful, unconditional love,
felt strong enough she thought
to keep life
the way she dreamed it would be.
A man never leaves his wife,
she knows well,
for she was once that wife
whose dutiful husband returned to
her
after finding warmth somewhere else.
For the guilt he felt, he resigned himself
to the golden girdle that confinedthe path that he promised to walk.
To pretend and to endure
the dutiful man thought,
was much easier than to
leave.
