Fading Whispers

Fading Whispers
paula robles nettel

Far away,
his whispers can be heard
eight hours, or forty-five minutes
is the blind distance between them
coding phrases,
good intention messages
he claims that she is special
she who cannot give him anything.
Why does he care?
What does he need from her?
If their worlds are planets apart,
there is nothing in her for him.
You can’t see her, can’t you?
She's the wishful thought of warmth
for a man who is trapped,
but she is no longer trapped
she is lost, and can't find
nothing more to give,
the smiles have left her face
others have taken them away,
as the warmth of her blanket
her lust has disappeared,
it serves her no purpose,
not without love.
You never saw the shimmer in her eyes
before they became soaked dark birds
in a lake of murky waters
where reflection might be lost forever,
tricked by selfish closeness
all her hope and beauty has been stolen.
