Stavanger - Behind the facade

The discovery of Groningen, a gas field in 1959 brought the Stavanger region to the steps of what was to become the future of a new sustainable level of wealth. Then years later, in 1969 a giant oilfield discovery named Ekofisk, brought expansion and development to the city.

The new industry was to become an important  source of employment and income to the future of a new wealthy Norway, last but not least to the development of the magnificent small city of Stavanger, that until now hides behind its facade, treasures of amazing history; of an international influenced city throughout centuries; surrounded by Viking conquests of the heart and the land, that remain embroidered with Nordic mythology and Sagas. In the middle of it all, trapped on stony walls, hidden prayers resound silently to the imagination - in the amazing Cathedral that has witnessed all and that still stands tall and proud, reassuring both inhabitants and visitors that more history it is yet to be written.
