Fatherhood through my eyes.

"His hands will give him a different experience about the world he lives in; his hands are stronger, bigger and they hold a different definition of your world as a woman. Let your son experience the less delicate yet safe movements of his father's hands, that define him as a man, as he will get to perceive that in both instances, while he is being held, that although the touch is different they both  are part of the world".

Those were my mother's words after my fright and sighing while the father of my son gave him a bath when he was newly born, and my ex decided to bathe him not following " my rules" but rather follow his heart and bathe him his on way.

These words have lived with me since then, allowing me to grasp the opportunity to enable  this relationship between a father and a son. Through all the moments  they live in perfect and imperfect times, all I could ever aspire to, is to enable them in their relationship.

Their world is as unique and as wonderful as my own world - in relation to my son. I might get disappointed, and hurt at times because my ideal does not match the reality, which is entirely a fault in me. I have also at times, rightfully,  even argue my case, explaining that there are things I am just not able to teach my son; starting from simple things like teaching my son how to perfectly pee standing up, like a boy, when he started to potty train, and so the list of manly experiences remain theirs.

No situation in life is ideal and we need to make the most of what comes our way. I know their love is wonderful and truthful, and allowing this love to bloom further in their own way, will remain one of the most important tasks as a mother while rising my child.

While looking back in time, I can see my mother many times being the bridge that allow me to communicate in my relationship to that wonderful man, whose less delicate approach to the world and strength scared my own girlie fragility; with the years, all the masculine perception of the world through my father's views, and  his lessons in life, became a big part of the late blooming core of my strength as a woman.
